Makeup for women of color

Makeup for women of color – Foundations & powders from Forever

Hello beautiful ladies,

This blog will be fully dedicated for women of color. In Europe, we have many makeup brands and artists, we can go to any store and we will surely find something that will fit our skin tone. Also when we want to have someone to do our makeup for a special occasion, any makeup artist will surely have a foundation for your skin tone. This is easily possible for anyone with fare to light dark skin. But how about ladies, who have darker skin tones?

Ever since makeup existed, it has been hard for women of color to find good, suitable makeup for their skin color. These days you have some major brands that produce makeup for all skins, but still not everyone likes them, or it can be hard to get them in some countries. In Germany this is a problem women of color face every time they want to find new makeup. Not only that it is hard to find, but its also not always easy to find a makeup artist, who has suitable products or who knows how to work with darker skin tones because of the lack of practice and products available.

Since I have worked with beauty products from Forever, I was always interested in makeup they offered. They have foundations, powders, BB creams and concealers also for women of color. I decided to get my hands on them and see, if these products would be professionally suitable to work with and if they would be a good alternative for women of color looking for good products in Germany. I had 4 beautiful ladies to come over and let me try the makeup with them. Needless to say, we had lots of fun and I’m happy to present you the results! Here are some of my thoughts about the makeup from professional point of view and some opinions from the ladies that did modelling for me!

Cream to powder foundations

These foundations are, like the name suggests, creams that turn into powder. The foundations in the pallet is creamy, it is easy to apply with a synthetic brush or a sponge, and in the end after a while it will turn into more powdery consistency on your skin. This is probably one of the major reasons, why they feel so light and natural. The coverage is pretty good and I didn’t see any problems with undertones or matching the skin. You can easily mix the shades to get the color you want. Because the foundation becomes more like a powder, it is not necessary to use lots of powder to set it in place. Blending the blush, couture or highlights is also not hard on this foundation.

Dark setting powder

I used this setting powder for all the girls I used the foundation on. It didn’t change the color of the face or give it grayish tone. In my opinion the powder set the foundations well and was also easy to work with.

Mineral powders

The two darker shades of the mineral powders, Amber and Caramel, did work just as well as the ones of the lighter shades. The powder has medium coverage and suits well for daily looks and if you do not want to cover too much. You can have very little coverage by applying very little product and naturally get more coverage by applying more. The soft kabuki brush from Forever suits perfectly well for applying this powder in circular motions. Unfortunately the darkest shade is not as dark as the darkest foundation, and therefore the powders would not be enough for someone with very dark skin tone.

Concealer – Dark

The two shades of the concealer are also possible to mix to match the skin tone you have. For someone who uses foundations, the concealer is not necessary needed. I used the lighter shade of the concealer under the eyes one of the girls because in her case I used powder. Concealers are not bad, only thing to remember, is to set it very well, or it will crease and highlight the wrinkles under you eyes. I had to try this couple of times before I got it right. Also, because of this reason you should not apply too much of it.

Here are some before and after pictures of the awesome ladies and their own thoughts!

Makeup for women of color - Iara
“The powder feels very natural, I could imagine wearing this as a day time look” – Products used: Mineral powders Caramel & Amber, Concealer Duet Dark
Makeup for women of color - Marion
“It feels natural and it wasn’t heavy on my skin. It lasted all night” – Products used: Foundations Mocha & Sunset, setting powder
Makeup for women of color - Laura
“The makeup was good, it lasted the whole evening. No oily feeling after.” – Products used: Foundation Raisin, setting powder
Makeup for women of color - Nicki
“The Make up was perfect and looked good in the evening.” Products used: Foundation Raisin, setting powder

Over all, I would definitely recommend the products for personal and also why not, professional use. After using them myself I have no breakouts, my skin is not drying out or feeling oily, and of course I like them because they are natural and cruelty free. I truly hope, that Forever will make more makeup and gets even darker shades. I can totally see this as potential products for all women of color out there.

I had a lot of fun testing the makeup and big thank you to all the ladies that did this with me! 🙂 And for all women of color: don’t hesitate to contact me if you need more information or if you would like to try some of the products too. They can all be purchased though me. Also, check German online brochure for more info.

I hope you enjoyed this blog, leave a comment, share and follow for more!

Aloe BB creams

Aloe BB Creams & Concealers from Sonya

Hello my Dears!
Today I want to introduce to you aloe based BB creams and concealers that I use myself, from Forever‘s Sonya collection. I have been using these products already for a while and I really like them. I like to have natural look when I do my makeup and both, BB creams and concealer give me enough coverage but also look natural at the same time. Of course, what else makes me like them, is the fact that thy are natural aloe based products and don’t cause my skin to break out. There is one little complain I have, but I talk about it further in the text. So then, let me show you the products and the effect they bring!

BB Creams

These BB creams are enriched with aloe and hydrate, conceal, perfect and provide sun protection for shades Nude & Sandy with 20 SPF and for the shade Cocoa with 10 SPF. It is great to have sun protection in your makeup, you can apply this BB cream 15 minutes before sun exposure and you are good to go. Reapply if needed. All this sounds nice but ladies remember, high amount of SPF (Nude & Sandy) in your foundation will cause flashback, meaning, your face will look white if someone takes a photo of you with a flash. You can minimize it a little with setting the cream with a good powder, but it will not fully remove it. I still love how it looks on my skin and can imagine wearing it myself during a nice sunny day out, and keep in mind not to take photos with flash!

Aloe BB creams Nude & Sandy

Here is a quick swatch of both shades, Nude and Sandy. I use mostly the shade Nude and mix it a little bit with the shade Sandy. I feel like Nude is a little too light for me, and I’m sure I will need to mix more Sandy shade during summer months.

Concealer Duet

Aloe Concealer Duet Medium

The concealer duet I use is Medium shade. Aloe based concealer pencils are easy to use and one of the shades has slight red/orange undertone, perfect for concealing dark under eye circles. The other more yellow tone is suitable for covering red spots. The creamy texture is easy to apply and blend, and it gives pretty good coverage.

Here is the comparison, my before and after photos! As you can see, it is not giving full coverage, but that’s why it is BB cream, and not a foundation. I like more natural look and only want to hide my discoloration and redness. The part I like the most, is how my dark under eye circles disappeared! The part I hate the most about my face! Nothing I can do about it, but luckily concealers can hide them for me sometimes 🙂 Please note, that this photo is taken without a flash, so it looks natural and not white in natural light.
